Full Time Pastoral Staff
Roger Ball, Senior Pastor – Roger is our Senior Pastor. He began attending FBC in August 1983 and became Senior Pastor in November 1990. In addition to his pastoral duties at FBC, Roger also teaches in the various masters’ and Doctoral classes at Phoenix Seminary and has served as Director of Mentoring at Phoenix Seminary. Local, national and international ministry for Roger has included school boards, compassion ministries, para-church work, conference speaking and Bible teaching.  In the last couple of decades many men and women were launched into full time ministry by FBC-Tempe through various training programs called Pastor in Training and Missionary in Training.  Any willing person can serve God.  See our Mentoring Leaders web page. Roger and his wife, Dianna, have two daughters, Sharon and Sharmon. Roger is an Arizona native and enjoys carpentry, fishing and dreaming.
Phillip Shepherd, Senior Worship Pastor – Phillip has been with us since December, 2009, and is a native of Georgia; born and raised in Monroe. He and his wife, Carole, have two teen children, Jaren and Lydia. He oversees all our fine arts ministries including all worship services, choirs, bands, orchestra, ensembles, praise teams, technical crews, and drama. Phillip’s hobbies are swimming, jogging, and acting.
Matt Brecht, Evangelism and Outreach Pastor – Matt is our Pastor of Evangelism and Outreach, Adult Sunday Bible Classes and our Small Group Ministry. He is an Arizona transplant from central California. He and his wife, Jenny, have been attending FBC since May of 2007. They have a daughter, Kyla, and a son, Chase. Matt enjoys riding motorcycles, camping and other outdoor activities. His life verse is Romans 8:1-5.
Brian McDaniel, Student & Family Ministries Pastor – Brian is our full-time Youth and Family Ministries Pastor who oversees the Junior High, High School and College Ministries. He is originally from Indiana and began attending FBC in 1999. Brian and his wife, Kathy, have three children, Breanna, Ross and Paul. In his spare time, Brian enjoys fishing and woodworking.
Jed Morrison, Business and Counseling Pastor – Jed began attending FBC in March 1993. Jed works directly with the Senior Pastor and his duties include overseeing the church finances, overseeing specific administrative staff and marriage and family counseling. Jed and his wife, Susan, have three children, Cory, Eric and Sadie. Jed was born in Bryan, Texas, and his interests include travel, movies, yard and home projects, family adventures and spending time with people.
   

Part Time Pastoral Staff
Phil Coleman, Associate Worship Pastor – Phil began attending FBC in 1974. Phil works directly with our Worship Ministries in planning and leading worship as well as playing in our orchestra. He and his wife, Lori, have two children, Turner and Alyssa. Phil is a Pastor-in-training turned Pastor and a Bible scholar.
Don Douthitt, Missions and Senior Saints Pastor – Don is our part-time pastor who is responsible in the areas of Missions and Senior Saints.  He provides leadership in the Berean Sunday School Class and he oversees the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) Ministry. Don is an Arizona native and began attending FBC in 1980. His favorite pastimes include reading biographies. Don has three daughters, Suzanne, Elaine and Janna and his wife, Rosemarie, has three children, John, Jim and Patt.
Phil Jay – Adult Discipleship Pastor – Phil and his wife, Sharon, have attended FBC since November of 2007.  As a Phoenix Seminary student, Phil is called to serve the needs of men’s ministry, mentoring and outreach.  Both have served as volunteers in ministry since their wedding in 1971 and full time since 2005.  Phil enjoys teaching, reading, golf and woodworking. 
Corey Kugle, College Pastor – Corey moved from Ohio to Arizona to attend Phoenix Seminary in preparation for full time ministry. He and his wife, Kasey, began attending FBC in Fall of 2007. Corey enjoys studying and teaching the Bible, playing and watching sports, and spending time with his wife.
Fred Morse, Pastor – Fred and his wife, Joy, began attending FBC in 1986. Born in Chicago, Illinois, some of Fred’s interests include old cars, especially from the 1950’s and miniature trains. Fred is a mentor to Pastor Roger and a Godly teacher of the Word.
Phil Van Kley, Associate Worship Pastor – Phil began attending FBC in 1981. Phil works directly with our Worship Ministries in planning worship and leading worship, playing the organ and piano and leading choir. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two daughters, Melanie and Mandy. Phil was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois and enjoys computers, computer games, video games and sports in his free time.
