Job Description:

 

First Baptist Church of Tempe (FBC), Arizona is seeking a Part Time College Pastor to lead our developed college ministry. This is a great opportunity to join a team that will accept, love and challenge people with God’s truth. We help any willing person reach his or her fullest potential to become radically Christ-like. Consequently, FBC is open to creative ideas and effective strategies to reach the next successive generations of college students. We also recognize that college ministry is constantly changing and hope the new College Pastor will be on the leading edge of college student culture and ministry.

Requirements:

 

Candidate must be a visionary leader who can recruit volunteers and energize college students so they are introduced to Christ and challenged to grow in Him. Successful candidate must demonstrate a proficiency in the scriptures with a minimum of two years experience in a college and young adult ministry and/or church ministry.

 

Job Description/Duties:

 

Ministry oversight:

·      Oversee the development of the ministry to the college students in the Tempe, Arizona area.

·      Oversee the coordination of trips, retreats, and missions projects for college students.

·      Oversee the direction and integration of the college ministry

·      Develop small groups and discipleship within the college ministry

·      Partner with the college ministry of local para church organizations in the Tempe area.

·      Provide vision, direction, and oversight to the college ministry leadership time (volunteer & staff)

Leadership Development:

 

·      Encourage and oversee the professional and personal development of college ministry volunteers

·      Recruit and equip volunteer ministry leaders for the college ministry

·      Provide shepherding and spiritual encouragement to ministry leaders

·      Model and demonstrate unconditional love in practical ways to the diversity of students who attend FBC

·      Provide a safe, nurturing place for students to discuss their doubts, uncertainties, and to explore and feel respected

·      Develop a team approach to ministry within each area of responsibility

 

Administration:

·      Oversee the budget and financial decisions for the college ministry

·      Communicated effectively with the Student and Family Ministries Pastor on ministry-related issues

·      Develop and maintain healthy team relationships with pastors, directors, church staff and ministry leaders through relationship building, attendance at weekly staff meetings and other meetings as necessary

 

Teaching:

·      Be a part of the team for adult services

·      Ensure that biblical and relevant teaching is provided throughout college ministry

·      Encourage teaching that is “life changing” rather than merely informational

·      Provide teacher training as appropriate

 

Personal Growth:

·      Maintain a growing relationship with the Lord that includes regular prayer, worship, and reading of God’s word

·      Continue to develop leadership gifts as well as an understanding of college ministry and next generation worship through on-going training, ministry networking and personal development
